Through his projects Vincent Desailly explores delineated spaces — buildings, neighborhoods, cities — with the help of a visual calligraphy at once documentarian, subjective, and artistic; consistently tailored to its subjects.
His first book, The Trap, published by Hatje Cantz and presented at Paris Photo’s 2019 edition, centered on the southeast districts of Atlanta in which trap music was born. In June 2022 he published his second monograph, De Marbre, with Éditions Secondes, a visual exploration of Palais Garnier melding of the ballet company, the building, and bodies.
He spent March to May 2023 producing a reopening exhibition at the Pavillon Carré de Baudoin, entitled 75020. The series of street portraits shot with a large format view camera is the result of a three month’s residency in Paris’ 20th arrondissement.
He is a regular contributor to M, le magazine du Monde.
“Red Dawn,” an image from The Trap, was selected and exhibited for the Taylor Wessing Prize at the National Portrait Gallery of London in 2019.
The dummy of The Trap was shortlisted and exhibited by the Dummy Book Award at the Rencontres d’Arles’ 2019 edition.
